Third Eleven Wicket Keeping

Andrew Silsby  1 stumping & 1 catch

With only three wins - the most recent on July 21st against eventual champions Finedon, it was a constant struggle, with runs proving hard to come by, especially in the latter part of the season.                                However, Rushton's resignation means there will be no relegation this season and Desborough Town will be stepping up to fill the Premier void. Final analysis: Won 3:   lost 15:  drawn 1:  rain affected 2.

With Old Grammarians winning at home to Horton 2nds (Horton 48 all out - O.G's 51 for 0) and rain preventing any play at Wollaston, a third place finish in division three and no promotion was the final outcome  for the Seconds. A great season - so close...........!  Final analysis: Won 14:  lost 5:  rain affected 3.

With their season finishing as it began - rained off, the Thirds finished in a creditable seventh place in division nine. It was a difficult season with the lack of available personnel being the main problem - borne out by the fact that 33 players played at least one game during the season.  Final analysis: Won 7: lost 9: rain affected 2

Luke Bartier (20) is one of the hottest prospects coming through the New South Wales ranks in Australia. He has been compared to Moises Henriques at the same age and plays club cricket alongside the all-rounder at St George, former home to Don Bradman.

A dual passport holder, Bartier is a genuine all-rounder, who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm seam. He has played NSW Premier Cricket (formerly known as Sydney Grade cricket) for St George since the 2011/12 season. He broke into first grade at 16, during the 2013/14 season and has represented NSW at both Under-17 and 19 level.

In January 2015, Bartier was adjudged “Cricketer of the Tournament” for his exploits at the Australian National Under-19 Championships. The all-rounder averaged 45.67 with the bat, including a game-saving 80 not out against Queensland, and finished second on the Championship wicket charts, taking 15 wickets at 7.47, including best figures of 6-36 against South Australia, following his 4-8 in the tournament opener against Tasmania.

His success culminated with selection for the Australian Under-19 Elite Talent Squad that competed in Brisbane at the Australian Centre of Excellence. Since then, Bartier has plied his trade for St George, playing alongside the likes of Henriques and fellow NSW stars Kurtis Patterson and Trent Copeland (former Aussie seamer). He has cemented his spot in the first grade line-up, which is a feat in itself, and now aspires to progress in the game.

FIFTH  TOTE DRAW - WINNERS - JULY 29th 2018

NEW CLUB RECORD

Andy Luck and Paul Jones pictured after setting a new club batting partnership in the game against Wellingborough 3rds on August 4th.

Openers Andy and Paul amassed an unbeaten  210 in just 29.1 overs to take the Third Team to a ten wicket win.

It is a club record for any wicket including all three WCC teams - beating the previous best of 196 set by Matthew Jones (son of Paul) and Darren King, for the First Team in 1996 at Overstone.

Andy struck 20 fours in his 107 not out while Paul's 62 not included ten boundaries.

Their achievement came just one week later than the 170 they accrued for the first wicket against St. Crispin Rylands in which Paul made 79 and Andy 66.

FIRST ELEVEN'S SEASON FINISHES IN FAMILIAR FASHION AT PETERBOROUGH

BOTTOM PLACE FINISH BUT NO RELEGATION DUE TO RUSHTON'S RESIGNATION

Wollaston 77 all out in 32.2 overs - Peterborough 79 for 5 in 15.4 overs   lost 2 points

Praveen Chandran 24  Sam Drage 15   Andrew Kowal 3 for 32 off 7 overs  scorecard    final league table

RAIN RUINS SECONDS PROMOTION HOPES

THIRD PLACE FINISH AFTER THE RAIN

Wollaston 2nds v Weldon   no play  6 points    scorecard    final league table

With Old Grammarians winning at home to Horton 2nds (Horton 48 all out - O.G's 51 for 0) and rain preventing any play at Wollaston, a third place finish in division three and no promotion was the final outcome  for the Seconds. A great season - so close...........!  Final analysis: Won 14:  lost 5:  rain affected 3.

------------------------------------------

THIRDS GAME WASHED OUT AGAINST IRCHESTER 2nds.  ONLY THREE OVERS POSSIBLE

Wollaston 3rds v Irchester 2nds      no result   5 points   scorecard  final league table

With their season finishing as it began - rained off, the Thirds finished in a creditable seventh place in division nine. It was a difficult season with the lack of available personnel being the main problem - borne out by the fact that 33 players played at least one game during the season.  Won 7: lost 9: rain affected 2

PAUL JONES RECEIVES HIS 50 LONG SERVICE AWARD AT LEAGUE DINNER

Paul receives his Long Service Award from journalist & former Middlesex bowler Simon Hughes

Paul, who is a "one-club" man, made his league debut for Wollaston as a fifteen year old in 1968.

Since then, mainly as an opening bat he has gone on to amass over 16,000 runs (including this year's total of 446) and his tally of 794 in 1981 is still a Wollaston club record.

He has been captain of all three senior teams, and off the pitch he has served on the General Committee for over 45 years, during which time, in addition to helping maintain the ground, he has taken on the responsibility of Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Youth coach and Bar Manager (but not all at once!) and most Friday nights can be found dispensing drinks and bonhomie at the club bar.

Olly made his Wollaston debut in 2013 and has taken nine wickets for the club at an average of 22.33 with a best of 5 for 57 in the victory against Peterborough. He also made an unbeaten 132 not out against Oundle.

He received his England cap prior to the first Sri Lanka v England ODI on October 10th at Dambulla which was washed out after 15 overs, but got a part of the action in the second One Dayer when he took 1 for 23 off 6 overs and made 9 not out in a 24 run last wicket stand with Adil Rashid.

He remained wicket-less after his three over spell in the 3rd ODI where England went 2-0 up in the five match series.
