FIRST ELEVEN

First Eleven v Burton Latimer Away 1st July 2006

BURTON 179 FOR 8 50 OVERS       WOLLASTON 177 ALL OUT IN 50 OVERS

Wollaston failed to achieve the win that would have taken them back above the hosts to the top of the division. In the event the points gap widened in favour of Burton.

Their score was mainly due to Number seven Chris Hanson (32), number six Paul Hughes (22) and number four Luke Styman (20). They recovered well from 74 for 5.

The visitors' best return with the ball came from skipper Harmit Bahra with 3 for 30 off 13 economical overs.
With number four Dave Mercer stroking a steady 64 and opener Matt Jones accumulating 28, Wollaston looked in a handy position at 157 for 7. However, with just 3 needed to win number eleven John Pike was adjudged LBW on the "umpires favourite" – the sweep the villagers were all out for 177 in the last over.

First Eleven v Great Oakley Home 24th June 2006

Gt Oakley 115 all out in 44 overs - Wollaston 119 for 5 in 27 overs

Oakley never recovered from the early onslaught induced by seamer John Pike ( 2 wickets) and Harmit Bahra (3) which plunged them to a unrecoverable 55 for 5. Even though number four Paul Short (27) and number seven Ryan Guinhot (34) provided they brief resistance could not turn the tide and when Andy Luck weighed in with two more scalps and Chris Perry and Simon Driver one each, 87 for 7 soon turned into 115 all out.

The hosts were never in trouble despite Lee Bell taking 2 wickets. Opener Matthew Jones (32) Mark Ralph (37) and Dave Mercer (27 not out) made sure there were no post tea-time shocks and took Wollaston to victory in just 27 overs.

First Eleven v Wellingborough Away 17th June 2006

WOLLASTON 179 FOR 9 off 50 overs - WELLINGBOROUGH 108 FOR 9 off 50 OVERS

Opener Matt Jones with 53 Liam Bates (39) and Simon Driver (24 not out) were the main contributors in Wollaston's bid to set a decent total for the Town to chase. Jon Clarke had most reward with the ball with 4 for 51 off 15 overs. In the event the villagers' 179 for 9 proved far too many for the Town who were immediately reduced to 16 for 4 by the 8 th over. Only a "barn-door" job by number seven Tony Walker (29) and number nine Darren Trotter (17 not out) forced the draw despite Man of the Match Driver' 4 for 17 off 12 and Harmit Bahra's 3 or 15 off 9 overs.

First Eleven v Rothwell Home 10th June 2006

ROTHWELL 81 ALL OUT off 34 overs
WOLLASTON 83 FOR 1 off 16 overs

Wollaston's opening bowler, John Pike, put this game firmly in control by whipping out the first three Rothwell batsmen with only 10 on the board. With Simon Driver getting in on the act and Pike adding another to his tally the visitors plummeted to 30 for 5 in the tenth over – a position they never recovered from. Although Ross Parker made 14 and Paul Budworth 19, their eventual total of 81 was never going to test Wollaston's strong batting line-up. Pike finished with 4 for 7 off 7 overs, Harmit Bahra 3 for 19 off 5 overs and Chris Perry 2 for 23 off 4 overs.

In reply the hosts raced to the winning total, only losing the hard-hitting Marcus Shelton - bowled Marcus Steed for 43 off 37 balls on the way. Fellow opener Matt Jones finished 33 not out, with Liam Bates accompanying him at the end 5 not out. The victory came in just 16 overs.

First Eleven v Isham Away 13th May 2006

Wollaston made heavy weather of passing a mediocre Isham total but eventually reached victory with four wickets in hand.
Skipper Harmit Bahra had again been the star man for the visitrs with the ball, taking 5 for 19 off 15 accurate, flighted overs. He brought himself on to replace opening seamer Simon Driver in the 15th over but had to wait until the 33rd before he had Simon Court caught by Liam Bates for 12.

Earlier Ben Reid (24) and Tim Robinson(26) had posted a 41 opening stand before left arm spinner Chris Perry removed both and put Isham on the back foot.
Bahra contiued to rip out the middle and lower order and Isham capitulated to 101 all out in the 43rd over. Perry's 3 for 25 understated his fine performance.

Although never in serious trouble Wollaston lost six wickets on the way to victory with opener Nick Shelton (44) and number four Dave Mercer (27) the only early batsmen to stamp their authority on the home attack. However number seven Mark Carter (13 not out) teamed up with Andy Luck to take the visitors to victory in the 36th over. Juan Harker proved the most succeful Isham bowler with 3 for 25 off 13.

First Eleven v Weekley & Warkton Home 6th May 2006

Although Wollaston’s awsome batting form continued it was again nulified by a team content with playing out the draw from the start. We lost the toss again but a bright opening stand of 124 in 30 overs put us in the ascendancy and the batting never looked back.

Opener Nick Shelton (57) was the first wicket to fall when he was bowled by Lee Sutherland but Matt Jones went on to score a magnificent 104 off 134 balls. His placement through the offside was exemplary and despite numerous field changes he could not be contained. When he was joined by number three Liam Bates (45) the run rate increased and the last ten overs saw 90 added to take the score up to a formiddable 237 for 3 off 43 overs. With two overs lost to bad light, this left the visitors a chunky 55 overs to reach victory. However, although the gauntlet had been thrown down, that is where it stayed! Weekley were happy to play out the overs without any attempt at a run chase. Even with 12 more overs than their hosts, survival seemed their only aim.

Weekley reached 189 for five by the close – the innings flattered by attacking fields employed by the fielding side in order to obtain a positive result. But it was in vain despite Chris Perry taking two wickets and Andy Luck, Simon Driver and Dave Mercer taking one each. Craig Ferguson (57) and Lee Sutherland (55 not out) top scored for Weekley.

Wollaston v S&L Corby - Away 29 April 2006

This game belongs exclusively to Harmit Bahra!
He didn’t single-handedly win this game for Wollaston with his slow, well-flighted in-dippers – but he wasn’t too far off! In reply to the visitors’ 206 for 7 in 45, he reduced the hosts’ to 74 all out by taking 8 wickets for just 6 runs in 12 amazing overs. An average of 0.7 !! Although he needed a bit of help with three of his wickets - one caught by Andy Luck, one by Liam Bates and a stumping by Mark Carter - he executed the remaining five on his own. Four clean bowled and one caught and bowled.

Wollaston had earlier declared after 45 overs at a healthy 206 for 7 with opener Nick Shelton reaching 50 (before being stumped) and Shabz Hussain, 41 not out (including 3 sixes), scoring at a decent rate. Fellow opener Matt Jones’s 37 had combined with Shelton to post a formidable 119 for the first wicket. Mike McGeown took most of the credit with the ball with 5 for 42 off six overs.
Although Simon Driver bowled opener McGeown with just 4 scored in the second over, Corby recovered slightly to 37 for 1 until Bahra brought himself on to bowl. He bowled number three Jim Swan in his first over and after that didn’t look back.
Wickets fell at short, regular intervals and Chris Perry chipped in to remove Mike McIntyre but fittingly is was Bahra who wrapped up the innings by taking two wickets in the 34 over with just 74 to Corby’s name.

First Eleven v Kettering at Home 22nd April 2006

Unfortunately Harmit lost the toss in his first game as captain and had to be content to bat first on a slowish wicket. However, Matt Jones and Nick Shelton got off to a good start and posted 63 for the first wicket before Nick departed with 27. Matt continued and was unfortunate to be bowled by Mark Albright just three short of a much deserved century. His 97 coming off just 81 balls. Debutante Dave Mercer came in at number four and stroked a stylish 63, and with help from extras the total was pushed up to 213 for 5 after 48 overs at which point Harmit called it a day.

In reply Kettering steadily pursued the total for the first twenty overs, but at 61 for 4 their hopes of victory rapidly disappeared and survival was their main objective. Another new boy Shabz Hussain opened the bowling for Wollaston and his 3 for 36 really put Town on the back foot. Chris Perry bowled his normal immaculate spell taking 3 for 34 off 11 and the skipper chipped in with one for 13 off 10. Kettering finished at 166 for 7 in their 52 overs.
