2007 REVIEWED
A View from the Dressing Room Another season at Wollaston Cricket Club had arrived and once again the expectations from Players, committee and supporters were high for the Club to do well! We had netted well at the County Ground and also started practicing outside early this year in the new nets - with a lot of people in attendance. We knew that both teams had pre-season friendlies planned for the weekend before the league started. With a few people on holidays some players played on both days and had an extra practice. The first team had a good run-out against Burton Latimer, allowing the bowlers to get a few overs under their belts and the batters had some time at the crease. The second team also had a good work out with Brett seeing what options he had for the following week . It was a revelation walking into the dressing room on the first training night and seeing Simon Driver and Chris Perry posting up pictures in their ‘corner of love’ - the pictures ranging from cartoons of their nicknames to their ‘favourite female!! Apparently it was to add to the team spirit, I could see that the lads were ready for the battle. The title chase was on!! The season obviously went very well - culminating with winning the Division One title. Obviously it had its ups and downs but on the whole everyone was positive and worked as a team to achieve the goal that we had all set ourselves. Another pleasing thing to see was that whenever players came into the First Eleven and what ever eleven took to the field, we played as a team and everyone contributed. The season finished perfectly with the winning of the title on a sunny day down the field and in front of a lot of friends and supporters who had come down to see us achieve our goal. I am sure all the players would like to thank the committee, sponsors and particularly John Hodges, Dick Underwood, Andy Luck and Andy Silsby for their hard work on the ground which every week was an absolute picture and a joy to play on. Finally I would like to thank all my team mates for a thoroughly enjoyable season. Wollaston First Teamer
