2007 REVIEWED
OVER 35s v UNDER 35s August 26th 2007 Over 35s
secure inaugural bragging rights against under 35s The run feast that the youngsters had been planning did not quite come to fruition as John 'the Zimmer' Pike and Darren 'blue rinse' King made early inroads into the much vaunted line up. Pup Bates and the fresh faced Mark Ralph were both caught by Steve 'I'm only 34' Musgrave off Pike and it was not until Mark 'babyface' Carter and Simon 'the 30year old' Driver came together did the score start to move. Musgrave then stepped up to remove Driver caught on the boundary despite the fact that he was tossing down eminently slapable off spin/Cornish treats. Tim
'the adolescent' Hudson returned from his tour of Canada in time for the game but
was almost unbelievably bowled by Muzzy who then pouched Chris 'green round the
gills' Perry on the rope off Dave 'experience' Ward. Both Carts and Hayden
'youth policy' James were run out, the latter by the former and the former in
unfortunate circumstances as skipper Andy 'pension book' Luck deflected a
straight drive onto the stumps. Matt 'juvenile' Jones and Mike 'vigorous' Duddle
put on 30 odd for the last wicket to take the score to 142 before Duddle fell
trying to hit the ball into next week. With willow restored, the antiquated Shelton brothers set about the target with a verve that belied their ageing bones but the senior, senior baboon was then dislodged as he chopped on. Number 3 Brett 'wisdom' Hanson played some pretty ugly looking mows off the author but was cleverly deceived into running himself out shortly after. He was soon followed back to the pavilion by an inebriated Darren 'i was on the other side till last night' Laughton who tried to hit Pez into the cow field and sliced horribly. The slightly less old Shelton was then dismissed in triumphant style by the opposition skipper's slightly quicker than medium seamers. The ball in question was delivered at almost optimum speed and jagged away from the groping batsman who could only edge it into the waiting hands of the keeper. Andy 'tweed jacket' Silsby flattered to deceive and was caught and bowled after a short partnership with King who had played some nice shots until he suffered a rush of blood to the head. Neil 'frail' Perry padded away about 5 overs of his son's left arm spinners then rolled back the years with a fierce cut (well, "edge"!) for 4 before he was cleaned up as a result of the sledging he had just received over the PA system. Without
further alarm Pike and Musgrave ticked off the winning runs.
