2019 REVIEWED - WITH ALL THE STATISTICS AND HEADLINES
After a difficult season
the First Eleven failed to climb out from the bottom spot of the Premier
Division and, depending on the League's format, could compete in Division One
next season. Just two wins during the season reflects a long struggle.
Overseas player Shea Gribben also proved to be a valuable asset, taking 39
wickets at a creditable average of 23.31
The Seconds had a good season - finishing in fourth place and recording fourteen wins out of twenty two. With 737 runs, Steve Musgrave set a new Second Eleven record for most runs during the season ( including two centuries) and with 29 wickets was closely on the heels of sixteen year old Callum Robertson who finished with 35 victims at an average of 14.71. The Thirds meanwhile finished just below halfway with five wins out of 18 games. Andy Luck's 480 runs led the way and skipper Craig Boddington's 80 not out was the Thirds highest score of the season. Adrian Ward took nineteen wickets and young Nathan Folkes made a big impression in his first full season, taking 15 at an average of 22.47. Another youngster, Jacob Cotter, had an encouraging season. Taking 12 wickets, he was subsequently promoted to the Seconds where he went on to take another 13 at an average of 14.29.
So with winter taking over, indoor nets
will commence in the new year, running through to next April when hopefully
the weather will allow outdoor practice at the ground.
We had a another busy season of youth cricket, although quite a few games were cancelled due to the weather, but the committee would like to thanks all the coaches and helpers for the time and effort they put into coaching the young players.
This was our 2nd year of running an All Stars centre for 4 to 8 year olds which was very successful and enabled us to enter an U9 Team in a number of tournaments, in which they did very well for a fairly inexperienced group.
New coaches Nathan Dawson and Adrian Ward saw the U11’s finished a very creditable joint 6thout of 16, with a lot of the players experiencing the first taste of hard ball cricket. The U13’s finished 4th in a strong division of 12 teams, with coaches James Day and Matthew Grant seeing some real improvement in their squad from last year. Coach Andrew Monteith, assisted by our overseas player Shea Gribben oversaw a shortened and tough season for the U15’s who completed only 5 games and had 3 cancelled due to rain.
Unfortunately it was disappointing that after reaching the finals in the two previous seasons our planned involvement in the ECB U19 tournament didn’t go as planned, due to player unavailability. However, most of these players did play in our adult teams on Saturdays, thus continuing the process of promoting our young players into our senior sides.
The season was wrapped up with a presentation night where the following awards were presented: Under Nine: The whole squad was congratulated on a brilliant season. Under Eleven: Most Improved Player: Jamie Sterling. Players' Player: Tommy Day Under Thirteen: Most Improved Player: Charlie Carter. Players' Player: Ashton Musgrave Under Fifteen: Most Improved Player: Woody McDonnell. Players' Player: Will Geddes The Ernie Bryant Overall Best Young Player: Nathan Folkes. The John Spriggs Overall Most Improved Player: Tom Luck
